Goal
To improve the standard and sustainability of the livelihoods of poor households in the rural areas and emerging growth centers within the programme area.
Objectives
  • Rural communities empowered and rendered self-reliant;
  • Productivity and incomes of households increased and made more sustainable;
  • Natural resources rationally utilized and protected;
  • Critical rural infrastructure improved or provided; and

Support to Districts and Sub-counties deepened.

Performance in FY 2009/10

  • Enrolled and trained 6,885 functional adult literacy learners;
  • Selected and supported 5,100 poor households with food security grants;
  • Supported 255 farmer groups with enterprise grants;
  • Trained 385 Petty Contractors,  46 Road User Committees and 40 Water User Committees to ensure maintenance and sustainability of the roads and water investments;
  • Construction of 45 hand dug wells, rehabilitation of 14 deep wells and protection of 32 springs in all Programme districts and construction of 1 valley Dam in Nakaseke are ongoing;
  • All the 13 DLSP districts participated in three regional workshops to review the performance of the AWP&B 2008/9 which was organized by the Programme Coordination Unit (PCU).

Planned Outputs for FY 2010/11

  • Rural households and farmer groups empowered to increase income and food security;
  • 110 water sources constructed;
  • Vehicles and equipments procured;
  • Facilitated land surveys, certification and processing of titles for the pilot beneficiaries;
  • Community access roads improved ;
  • Infrastructure User Committees formed and  trained
